ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rainey Saint Laurent is an emerging artist based in Austin, TX.
Rainey Saint Laurent is an emerging multimedia artist with an interest in SFX/prosthetics, sculpture, film, painting, and illustration. She is currently developing her skills in creating realistic silicone mask characters in pursuit of her dream of seeing one of her creatures come to life on the big screen.
Rainey is originally from Houston, Texas and currently resides in Austin, Texas. She recently earned her bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts with Honors (Cum Laude) in May 2022 at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Rainey enjoys traveling, exploring unfamiliar places with her pup, snowboarding, and immersing herself in new experiences. In the past year, she worked as a paid intern for the Durango Creative District as a Program Assistant, Summer 2021, where she helped run a summer art market, worked on their newsletters and website, created poster designs, was commissioned for a mural in the Durango Welcome Center, and more. After completing her internship, she was hired part-time in the Fall as Social Media Manager. Rainey also worked as Studio Assistant for Gallery Director and Assistant Professor of Sculpture, Melissa Sclafani. Another position she held at Bella Dance Studio as a Hip Hop instructor and choreographer. She worked 3 jobs at once while being a full-time college student, which testifies to her work ethic and passion for doing creative work.
Rainey’s inspiration derives from self-exploration, alternative realities, mental health, social issues, and films that have been the source of content for her art. She enjoys challenging herself by experimenting with new mediums and materials because of her desire to always stay open-minded in her practices and life – and endlessly grow as an artist. Similar to her creative process, her work challenges others to be more open-minded to how they perceive the world. Her interest involves traveling for work so she can continue to immerse and expose herself to a variety of cultures and intriguing geological places, as well as to connect and work with artists everywhere.

Artist Statement
I am an emerging multimedia artist with an interest in SFX/prosthetics, sculpture, film, painting, and illustration. While making the most of opportunities, my goals involve continual practice of exploring unfamiliar mediums and engaging with artists from diverse backgrounds.
I grew up in Houston, TX, where diversity thrives, and was always surrounded by people with different backgrounds, beliefs, and ideas that have inspired me to explore ideas of consciousness, perspectives, and relationships among people. Dance was my first love in discovering my creative passions, which overlapped into my understanding of the human body’s limits, movements, and performance. This has influenced the way I approach my work with awareness of movement and strong internal tensions in each piece.
I am a “all or nothing” type of person, which is clearly reflected in my body of work, either that be my explosive use of colors that consume a canvas or simplistic black and white illustrations. Typically, my style involves exaggerated dark humor and grotesque confrontational imagery in pursuit of forceful impact. Additionally, I create therapeutic works influenced by the desire to tell stories that give people new insight or validate their similar experiences depicted through my own personal stories and creative perception. My works derive from self-exploration, alternative realities, mental health, social issues, and films that have been the source of content for my creations.
